Boy Scouts at yard sale
Boy Scout Troop 29 and Kenly Cub Scout Pack 29 will be camped out at the 301 Endless Yard Sale, which will take place June 14-15 along U.S. 301 between Kenly and Benson. The Scouts will have a campfire and a range of displays showing how they set up camp and cook food. The Scouts are accepting donations of items to sell during the yard sale. Family Fun Day at Archer Lodge

Saturday, June 29 – 6:30 a.m., registration for road race; 7 a.m., 5K road race and walk; 10:45 a.m., skydivers, weather permitting; 11 a.m., parade; 11:30 a.m., park opens with inflatables and concessions; noon, cornhole tournament; 1 p.m., Bingo; 2 p.m., cakewalk; 3:30 p.m., splashdown; 7:30 p.m., patriotic ceremony with the Army Ground Forces Band; 9:15 p.m., fireworks.

A bus trip to Kings Dominion is scheduled for Monday, July 22. The cost is $75 per person and includes transportation and park admission. Children ages 2 and younger get in free. Lunch and dinner are not included. Registration is required by Monday, July 1.
Discount rabies shots
Throughout June, Clayton Animal Hospital will offer $6 rabies vaccines for cats and dogs. The animal hospital is at 11058 U.S. 70 Business West in Clayton. Mental health class
The Johnston County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will hold a 10-week class for persons with a mental-health diagnosis. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays at Stellar Peer Recovery Center, 440 E. Main St., Clayton. A start date will be set after the roster is filled. The Family Life Center in Smithfield invites young people ages 6-14 to enroll in its summer camp, called Harambee, a six-week program that uses the principles of Kwanzaa. The Smithfield Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity is seeking patrons to support or join its team, Kappas Against Kancer, which will take part in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Triathlon in Smithfield
The Chick-fil-A 3 Little Pigs Triathlon is scheduled from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. The event will feature a 250-yard pool swim, a 14-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. Family activities will also be available. The cost is $50 per person and includes a T-shirt. Rodeo in Smithfield

Wings Camp, a camp for children ages 8-16 who have suffered the loss of a loved one, will be held Aug.2-4 at the Woodmen of the World Camp in Dover. Wine, food event seeking sponsors
RHA Howell is seeking sponsors for this year’s Epicurious Vino Challenge, which is scheduled 6-10 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at Hinnant Family Vineyards, 826 Pine Level Micro Road, Pine Level.
Professional chefs across the state will compete to make the best dish using a Hinnant Family Vineyards wine as a key ingredient. Guests will taste each dish and vote for their favorites. The event will also feature music, a full bar, a live auction and prizes.
Proceeds will go to RHA Howell, a nonprofit that serves children and adults with disabilities.

Summer camps – Weeklong camps for children ages 5-12 will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 10-Aug. 9. Each week will offer swimming, sports and outdoor play. Children must bring two snacks, lunch, a swimsuit and a towel. The cost is $100 per week for residents and $125 per week for nonresidents. Early drop-off and late pickup are available for an extra $25 per week.
Senior club – The Smithfield Sterling Silvers Senior Club meets at 10:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of every month. The club is for adults ages 55 and older, and membership dues are $12 a year.
Kids Night – 5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15. Activities will include swimming, gym time and snacks. Advance registration is $8 for residents and $12 for nonresidents. Each additional child is $5. Registration on the day of the event is $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents.
Pottery camp – A pottery camp for children ages 8-15 is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon July 15-18. The cost is $85 for residents and $100 for nonresidents. The materials fee is $20.
