Edsel H. Thompson

Mr. Edsel H. Thompson, of Wilkesboro died Monday, June 17, 2013 at VA Hospital in Asheville.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 2:00 p.m., June 19, 2013 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel. Entombment with military honors by Post #1142 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home prior to the service.

Mr. Thompson was born February 10, 1930 in Johnston County, NC to Waiston and Rosa Stephenson Thompson. He spent 25 years in banking and farm mortgages. After retiring from First Union Bank, he went to work at the Employment Security Commission as a Disabled Veterans Outreach Specialist. Mr. Thompson served in the United States Air Force B-29 Group during the Korean War. He graduated with high honors with an Economics Degree from North Carolina State University, was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Gamma Signa Delta. He was an active deacon and Sunday school teacher at Pisgah Baptist Church in Johnston County. Mr. Thompson was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary Susan Ragland Thompson of the home; one daughter, Pamela Thompson Miller and husband, Samuel of Wilkesboro; one son, Michael H. Thompson of Wilkesboro; and one sister, Rosalie Thompson Creech of Smithfield, NC.
