Thursday, July 4, is Independence Day, and federal, state and local-government offices in Johnston County will be closed for the holiday.
Also, the county’s public schools, public libraries and ABC stores will be closed.
Town halls in Archer Lodge, Benson, Clayton, Four Oaks, Kenly, Micro, Pine Level, Princeton, Selma, Smithfield and Wilson’ Mills will all be closed Thursday.
The Smithfield Herald will be closed Thursday.
Because of the holiday, the Town of Smithfield has moved its July 4 garbage collection to Wednesday, July 3. Curbside containers and debris should be placed curbside after 5 p.m. the day before collection and removed no later than 8 a.m. the day after collection.
Additionally, the Johnston County landfill and solid waste convenience centers will be closed July 4.
The Johnston County Board of Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the courthouse in Smithfield. In the morning, the board will likely adopt a resolution putting public school and community college bonds on the November ballot in Johnston. In the evening, commissioners will hear a number of rezoning requests.
