Vel P. Luck

Velma “Vel” (Peedin) Ellington Luck, 93, of Stuarts Draft and formerly of Richmond passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Stuarts Draft Christian Home. Born May 29, 1920 in Pine Level, NC she was the daughter of the late James L. and Sadie (Boykin) Peedin. On August 11, 1970 she married the love of her life, Alfred M. Luck. The two shared a blessed union of 43 years together. Vel was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Waynesboro. Having made Richmond her home for a very long time, she had been employed by the John Harland Company where she worked as a Customer Service Representative until her retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing, painting, decorating and gardening. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Golda Davis, Gordin Peedin, Norman Peedin and James L. Peedin, Jr. In addition to her loving husband, survivors include her two children, Samuel Keen Ellington, Jr. and wife, Debra of Bluegrass, VA and Penelope (Ellington) Brantley and husband, Ken of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Hunter Brantley and wife, Katherine and Dane Brantley and wife, Anna of Charlotte, NC, Spencer Ellington of Sarasota, FL, Windsor Aleshire and husband, Darrell of Dinwiddie, VA, Stuart Ellington and wife, Kelly of St. Petersburg, FL, Megan Driver and husband, Brent of Churchville, VA and Samuel Keen Ellington, III of Staunton; step-children, Frederick Marshall Luck, Sr. and wife, Marty of Richmond, VA and Robert Thornton Luck and wife, Cheryl of Greenville, VA; step-grandchildren, Frederick Marshall Luck, Jr. and wife, Meredith and Gibson Luck and wife, Kristen of Richmond, VA; three great- grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; siblings, Rachel Johnson of Selma, NC and Wilma Oliver of Pine Level, NC; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Stuarts Draft Christian Home with Rev. Bill Bearden and Chaplin Karen Moore officiating.
