College announces concert series

Johnston County Community College has announced its 2013-2014 Concert Series lineup. All shows will be in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium on the Smithfield campus, 245 College Road. For tickets, call the JCC Box Office at 919-209-2099 or visit www.jccperformingarts.com.

Generation Bluegrass – The bluegrass band will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. Advance tickets are $12.50 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and military. All tickets at the door are $15.

B.J. Thomas – Singer B.J. Thomas, a five-time Grammy Award winner, will perform songs from his album “The Living Room Sessions” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Advance tickets are $27.50 for adults and $25 for seniors, students and military. Tickets at the door are $30.

“The Music Man” – The Neuse Little Theatre will present Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man” at 8 p.m. Nov. 15-16 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17. Tickets are $18.

“Seussical” – The Cat in the Hat will emcee “Seussical,” a musical featuring Dr. Seuss classics, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22. Advance tickets are $12.50 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and military. Tickets are the door are $15.

“Blood Done Sign My Name” – 7 p.m. Friday, March 14. Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and military. Tickets at the door are $17.50. In “Blood Done Sign My Name,” Tim Tyson recounts the 1970 murder of Henry “Dickie” Marrow in Oxford. A question-and-answer session with playwright and actor Mike Wiley and author Tim Tyson will follow the performance.

“The Fantasticks” – 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19. Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $12.50 for seniors, students and military. Tickets at the door are $17.50 at the door. “The Fantasticks,” the longest-running musical in history, is a romantic comedy about a boy, a girl and their meddling fathers.

Comedians Shang Forbes and Aaliyah Ford – 7 p.m. Friday, March 28. Tickets are $8. Forbes has appeared on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” and BET’s “Comic View Grand Stand.” Ford has performed on the BET Apollo Live and J Spot.

“Grease” – 7 p.m. Saturday, March 29. Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $12.50 for seniors, students and military. Tickets are the door are $17.50. In this participatory musical, audience members are invited to dress as their favorite “Grease” characters and sing along to the music.

Comedian Tim Hawkins – 6:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday, April 12. Tickets are $20 for upper-section seating and $30 for lower-section seating. For the 9 p.m. show, VIP lower-section seating can be purchased for $50. The cost includes a meet-and-greet and dinner.
