Spartans, Corinth Holders’ Labonte win at Reedy Creek
Smithfield-Selma won the second Two Rivers 3A Conference girls’ golf match of the season Monday with a total of 144 at Reedy Creek Golf Course. The Spartans edged both Corinth Holders and Triton by a single stroke.
Sophomore Haley Talton led SSS with a 42, while fellow sophomore Parker Watson shot 44 and Maggie Riley added a 58.
Peyton Labonte of Corinth Holders was the individual medalist with a 39, while Taylor Knott shot 51 and Kyleigh Herzog added a 55.
Cleveland was fourth at 153 and South Johnston came in fifth (155). Tabby Herzig led Cleveland with a 48, while Sydney Wheeless shot 49 for the Trojans.
Corinth area youth basketball, cheerleading registration
Corinth Community Recreation will hold registration for youth basketball and cheerleading from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 and 3 at the concession stand behind Corinth-Holders Elementary School. Children in kindergarten through seventh grade are welcome and the cost is $50 per child. All games will be played at the Corinth-Holders Elementary School gym. Bulldogs still unbeaten in league
Princeton rolled by Lakewood 25-3, 25-16, 25-13 for its seventh Carolina 1A Conference win in as many tries this season. Senior Savanna Massengill led the Bulldogs with 10 kills, while Taylor Carroll and Tori Paul added seven kills each.
Carroll served 18 consecutive points to get Princeton (11-1 overall) started in the match.
South grabs back-to-back wins
South Johnston dropped C.B. Aycock and Western Harnett in volleyball last week. The Trojans beat Aycock 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 25-12 on Monday and downed new conference rival Western Harnett 25-18, 25-15, 25-15 on Tuesday.
Alexis Massengill totaled 26 kills and 22 digs in the two matches for the Trojans, who moved to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Emma Blackman had 13 kills in the win over Aycock and Kathryn Lee had 34 assists.
Garner, Vidlickova lead field at Reedy Creek
Garner won the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference girls golf match at Reedy Creek on Tuesday, finishing at 131, four shots ahead of West Johnston.
Nichole Ceyrolles paced Garner with a 39, while Lauren Ceyrolles shot 44 and Taylor Whitley had a 48.
West Johnston junior Monika Vidlickova earned medalist honors with a 37, while Preslee Honeycutt shot 45.
Clayton was third at 154 with Maryanna Byrd carding a 49.
Princeton runs to another win
Princeton’s girls cross-country team won the Carolina 1A Conference meet hosted by Neuse Charter School on Tuesday, placing all seven of its runners in the top 13 of the meet. Megan Evans led the Bulldogs with a second place finish in 24:12.
Altheia Balageo was fourth (24:38) and Amber Johnson grabbed sixth (25:33).
Princeton’s boys finished second in the meet to Rosewood. Matt Edwards grabbed individual runner-up honors for Princeton in 20:06, while Jose Moreno was fourth.
