Watson paces SSS to another golf win
Parker Watson’s round of 40 earned medalist honors and helped Smithfield-Selma to another Two Rivers 3A Conference girls’ golf match victory Tuesday at Riverwood. The Spartans finished at 141, two shots ahead of runner-up Triton.
Haley Talton, the conference scoring leader, added a 44 for SSS and Maggie Riley and Ayanah Sanders both shot 57s.
Corinth Holders was third at 155, getting a 45 from Peyton Labonte. South Johnston finished two strokes behind the Pirates in fourth. Rachael Wheeler shot 50 for the Trojans.
Cleveland was sixth (167), five shots behind Western Harnett. Tabby Herzig (53) led the Rams.
Princeton keeps winning
Princeton won its 13th Carolina 1A Conference match in as many outings Tuesday, topping Neuse Charter in three sets. Tori Paul and Savanna Massengill had seven kills each in the win, while Taylor Carroll rolled up 18 service aces and Hailey Wood added 10 aces.
The Bulldogs (18-1 overall, 13-0 conference) have already clinched the Carolina 1A Conference championship.
South Johnston rallies by Triton
South Johnston took advantage of second-half goals by Jorge Barahona and Yovani Martinez to rally for a 3-2 boys soccer win over Triton on Wednesday. Jose Correa assisted on both of the Trojans’ second-half goals.
Alan Houston scored the first South Johnston goal. The Trojans stand 3-2 in the Two Rivers 3A Conference and in third place after the win.
Bulldogs finish off perfect run
Princeton’s girls cross-country team won its fifth and final Carolina 1A Conference regular-season meet of the season Tuesday at Rosewood. The Bulldogs placed Amber Johnson fourth, Brynna Lee fifth, Abby Rubio sixth and Altheia Balageo seventh in the meet.
Princeton’s boys were third, led by Jose Moreno in fourth.
Corinth Holders sweeps Smithfield-Selma
Corinth Holders swept by Smithfield-Selma in volleyball, 25-19, 25-15, 25-11, Tuesday in Two Rivers 3A Conference play. Rachel Moore had six kills for SSS in the loss.
