Cleveland at Corinth Holders, 7:30
Yes, Cleveland’s route to the Two Rivers 3A Conference is more direct as the only team left in the league with a perfect league mark, but Corinth Holders has just as direct of a route, even after its tough double-overtime loss to South Johnston. If the Pirates win out, starting this week, they’ll get that league title.
Both teams’ defenses will be in the spotlight with the Rams trying to control the Corinth Holders’ passing attack led by Cole Sakowski. The Pirates must figure out how to manage a Ram run game featuring Shrine Bowl pick Isaac Martin.
West Johnston at Southeast Raleigh, 7
Neither team in this one got what they wanted last week so expect a hard-fought battle between two teams still hoping for a playoff trip.
Smithfield-Selma at Triton, 7:30
The Spartans make their second straight trip to Harnett County, this time to face the run-heavy Hawks.
Western Harnett at South Johnston, 7:30
South Johnston’s still in the hunt for the Two Rivers 3A Conference although it will need some help to get there. Western built its confidence with its win over SSS last Friday and played Corinth Holders even for a half earlier this month. Those who take the Eagles lightly could pay.
North Duplin at Princeton, 7:30
Princeton has certainly found its scoring touch the past two weeks with a pair of 50-plus point outings. The Bulldogs look to continue that trend against the Rebels, who were within a few inches of completing a Hail Mary pass last week to tie Rosewood in the final minute.
North Johnston at North Pitt, 7:30
Another week, another new conference foe for North Johnston.
South Johnston coach
“It was an exciting game and hard-fought battle on both sides. … The defense played great all night and gave the offense multiple opportunities. The stops and blocked kicks at the end of the game were heroic.”
