Bank sponsors benfit run

Four Oaks Bank sponsored this year’s Sue Daniels Memorial Run for Backpack Buddies, held Oct. 12 in Wilson’s Mills.

Backpack Buddies provides weekend meals to schoolchildren. Last year’s memorial run raised enough money to provide more than 22,000 meals to children from Wilson’s Mills Elementary, Powhatan Elementary and Selma Elementary.

Women in Networking to award scholarship

The Clayton Women in Networking are accepting applications for their first Business Scholarship.

The scholarship will go to a woman 19 or older who wants to further her education and enhance her business career. Criteria include financial need, personal circumstances, achievements and educational goals.

Panel discussion on work, family

A panel discussion on “taking care of business” at work and home is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Hinnant Family Vineyards, 826 Pine Level-Micro Road near Pine Level. WRAL-TV news anchor Debra Morgan will moderate the discussion on balancing family and career responsibly.

Expo is Wednesday

The Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce will stage the 2013 BB&T Business Expo Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210, Smithfield. The annual business trade show draws more than 40 exhibitors and nearly 1,000 attendees.

MS Word Columns, Tables and Merges – 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Nov. 6, in Room 1033 of the Workforce Development Center. Learn to master columns, tables and mail merges in Microsoft Word. The cost is $71.

MS Excel Calculations – 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Nov. 20 in Room 1033 of the Workforce Development Center. Learn to use common business calculations and troubleshoot results. The cost is $71.

Notary Public – The class is required for anyone wishing to apply through the N.C. Secretary of State’s Office to be commissioned. Students must be 18 or older and have a GED or high school diploma. The cost is $98. The following session will be held at the Cleveland Center: 6-9 p.m. Nov. 18-19. The following sessions will take place at the Workforce Development Center: 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8; and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.
