Pirates’ offense shines against SSS

Corinth Holders scored on its first six possessions and downed Smithfield-Selma 39-7 Friday night at Tucker Stadium. The Pirates (7-3, 2-2) broke a two-game losing streak with the victory.

The Pirates scored 25 first-quarter points, with Dymon Walker catching a 59-yard touchdown pass and returning a punt 47 yards for a score during that span. Cole Sakowski and Butler Collins also ran for first-quarter TDs.

Smithfield-Selma’s Chris Samuels led all runners with 67 yards on 16 carries. Tyler McDougle ran nine yards for a touchdown for the Spartans (0-10, 0-4) in the third quarter.

Cleveland wins Two Rivers 3A title: Cleveland downed South Johnston 34-12 to claim the No. 1 playoff seed from the Two Rivers 3A Conference.

South Johnston quarterback Garrett Smith ran for a game-high 173 yards on 24 carries in the loss. Aaron Farmer (109 yards rushing) ran for three TDs.

Games postponed: Clayton will visit West Johnston at 6:30 Monday night for a Greater Neuse River 4A Conference battle.

Princeton and Lakewood made up their Carolina 1A Conference game on Saturday night (after press time for this edition).
