Benefit Horse Show Nov. 23

The Johnston County Horse Show Series will hold a special Christmas charity show to benefit families in need at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Johnston County Livestock Arena in Smithfield. Competitiors and fans are asked to sponsor classes of competition. Money raised will be donated to two Johnston County charities with a focus on families and children. Last year, the event raised more than $700, which was split between the Saint Ann’s food kitchen and the House of Hope. Sponsorships are $7 per class or 10 canned food items per class. Grinch Toy Run is Dec. 7

The second annual Grinch Stink Stank Stunk 5K Toy Run will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, in Smithfield. All participants are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or gift card. All donations will go to Harbor and the Johnston County DSS Angel Tree Project. Prizes will be awarded to runners who dress as a Whooville character. Register at www.smithfield-nc.com or in person at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. Race packets can be picked up from noon until 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, and toy donations can be dropped off then. The 5K run begins at 10 a.m. and a jog/walk event will begin at 10:05 a.m.
