North girls, Princeton boys win

North Johnston and Princeton split their basketball contests Friday night. The Bulldogs boys team held the Panthers to 15 first-half points in a 52-42 victory.

Bailey Lail had 13 points in the loss to pace North.

The Panthers held on for a 44-42 girls victory despite a 23-point night from Princetons Savanna Massengill. Chandler Hines led North with 19 points in the victory, while Tanjela Williams added nine.

South girls drop Neuse Charter

South Johnstons girls downed Neuse Charter 77-40 Friday night behind an 18-point outing from Anna Webster. Caroline Dorman added a dozen points.

The 11-point nights from Kylie Medlin and Krista Collins gave South four double-figure scorers on the night.

Pirates roll up the wins in conference swim meet

Corinth Holders swimmers won 20 of 22 events as the Pirate boys and girls teams won their second straight Two Rivers 3A Conference meets of the season Thursday at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center.

South Johnston’s boys were second in the team standings, while Cleveland girls took second.

Ashley Heinemann and Stephanie Grandin won two individual events for the Pirate girls. Heinemann took the individual medley and the 100 free wins, while Grandin won the butterfly and the breaststroke. Alyssa Stevens (200 free), Skylar Potts (50 free), Amanda Knickerbocker (500) and Michaela Carter (backstroke) also won for the Pirates.

Corinth Holders took all three girls relays with Carter, Grandin, Potts and Heinemann on the 200 medley relay team in 1:48.88 and on the 200 free relay in 1:48.88. Meg Raynor, Knickerbocker, Gabby Terrill and Alyssa Stevens won the 400 relay (4:46.78).

Amanda Smith and Rachel Quinn both picked up a pair of third place finishes for Cleveland.

Smithfield-Selma’s 400 freestyle relay team finished second with Kaitlyn Dacey, Haley Talton, Kara Harrison and Kate Davis. Dacey was third individually in the medley.

Princeton’s Alexis Juarez also swam in the meet. She was ninth in the 100 free.

On the boys’ side, Connor Blandford, Chris Carter, Neal Quinn and Bryce Sherrill combined to win the medley and 400 free relays for the Pirates. Eric Svadeba, Jacob Stokes, Maverick Pellegrino and Bailey Blackwell swam on the winning 400 relay team.

Double individual wins went to Quinn in the individual medley and the 500 and Blandford in the butterfly and the backstroke. Sherrill (200 free) and Chris Carter (breaststroke) also picked up wins.

South picked up two top three finishes from Garrison McLeod (breaststroke, 2nd and 200 free, 3rd) and a third place finish from Dennis Dinwiddle in the butterfly.

Jake Craddock of SSS was the runner-up in the backstroke and the 500.

Neuse Charter boys start 5-0

Neuse Charter beat Durham Kestrel Heights in boys basketball 58-49 on Dec. 4. The Cougars moved to 5-0 on the season with the victory. Jimmie Sanders III led NCS with 18 points.
