Harrison Gym open play

Practice your moves, meet your friends, stay active and spend time with your family at the Harrison Gymnasium. Drop in for basketball with no reservations necessary. The court is available on a first-come, first-served basis. You must sign in each time and present a photo ID. Play for ages 18 and over older is available Sundays from 4-6 p.m. The cost is $3 per person. Play for ages 55 and older is available on Fridays from 6-8 p.m. There is no charge for the Friday session.

Baseball

Spring baseball registration with the Smithfield Parks Department is now open for ages 7-14 (as of May 1, 2014). The fee is $35-70. Practices begin in March and games start in April. Registration closes Feb. 7.

Softball

Spring softball registration with the Smithfield Parks Dept. is now open for ages 7-14 (as of Jan. 1, 2014). The fee is $30-60. Practices begin in March and games start in April. Sign-ups close Feb. 7.

T-ball

Registration for T-ball with the Smithfield Parks Department. opens Feb. 10 for ages 5-6 (as of May 1, 2014). The fee is $30-60 and practices begin in April.

Aquatics and fitness

The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of aquatics classes and fitness programs. Visit SRAConline.com or call 934-1408 for more information. Some of the fitness offerings include Cycling, Zumba, Hip Hop Hustle, Piyo, Turbo Kick, Total Body, Tai Chi, Inferno Cycle, P90X and Cycle Fusion. Spring youth leagues

Registration for youth baseball and softball this spring with the Clayton Parks and Recreation Dept. is open until Jan. 20 for family annual members. Open registration will run from Jan. 21 until Feb. 3 (or age groups are full). Leagues offered are T-ball (coed, ages 5-6 as of July 31, 2014), coach-pitch (boys ages 7-8 as of July 31, 2014), boys Tar Heel Leagues Inc. baseball (ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17 as of May 1, 2014) and girls fast-pitch softball (ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 as of Jan. 1, 2014). The fee is $25 for residents of the town of Clayton or annual family members or $60 for non-residents.
