Southeast sweeps West

Southeast Raleigh swept West Johnston in a basketball doubleheader Tuesday night. The Bulldogs won the girls game, 78-24 and the boys game, 65-49.

Southeast shook off a slow start in the girls game, scoring 53 points in the second half. Four Bulldogs had 11 or more points in the victory led by Kia Abrams’ 16 points. Jade Phillips had a dozen.

West’s Jarmeia Holder had 13 in the loss.

Southeast’s boys held West to 21 second-half points after leading by just three points at the half.

Balance key for Cleveland girls

Cleveland’s girls basketball team rolled by Greene Central 59-28 Monday night. The Rams were led by Miranda Hinton’s nine points on the night but four other Cleveland players added eight points each in an incredibly balanced effort.

Courtney McGregor, Myrayna Watkins, Shaniya Taylor and Alliyah Sands had eight-point nights for the Rams.

Greene Central took a 59-55 boys win. Wayne Hatfield had 16 in the loss for Cleveland. Both teams scored 14 points and 15 points each, respectively, in the final two quarters.
