Donald Ray Allen

Donald Ray Allen, age 69, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield. Born August 28, 1944 in Bladen County he was a son of the late J.W. Allen and Mildred Hall Woodard. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Lee Allen. Donald enjoyed and was very proud of his work throughout the years, especially his millwright service. He started at any early age with Smithfield Lumber Company, with Julian Marshall as his mentor. He became a man of many trades. He was a member of the Smithfield Police Auxiliary in the early 1970’s. He enjoyed drag racing, flea markets, and traveling.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2013 in the chapel of Underwood Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Hurt and Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. just prior to the service. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Pilkington Cemetery in Pine Level.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Brenda Pilkington Allen of the home; son, Donald “Ray” Allen, Jr. and wife Sarah E. Allen of Mocksville; daughter, Donna Allen Baker of Micro; brother, Richard Wayne Allen and wife Faye of Clayton; aunt, Donnie Hall Allen; grandchildren, Reagan Michelle Allen, Matthew William Allen, and Jordan Allen Baker; stepgrandchildren, Hannah E. Burroughs, and Tandee I. Moss; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and dear friend, Julian Marshall.
