A pancake supper is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Johnson Memorial Church, 8280 N.C. 50 south of McGee’s Crossroads. The cost is $7, with takeout available. Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. For more information, call 919-894-3688.

Plates of spaghetti with meatballs will be on sale from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Grace Episcopal Church, 111 Lee Court, Clayton. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Takeout will be available. For more information, call 919-553-2810.

A country breakfast is scheduled from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at New Zealand Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 5312 Meadowbrook Road in the Meadow community. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger.


Auditions for spoken-word artists, gospel rappers, poets and other performers are scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Bentonville Disciples of Christ Church, 8566 Devil’s Race Track Road, Four Oaks. The auditions are open to people ages 13 to 39. Those chosen will perform at the church’s Bridge Cafe from 5 to 8 p.m. March 1. For more information, call 919-915-1581.

Gospel music

A gospel sing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Smithfield Advent Christian Church at the corner of N.C. 210 and Galilee Road west of Smithfield. Full Reliance and the Hickory Grove Quartet will perform.

The Atkinsons will sing at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at Baker’s Chapel Ministries, 2412 Baker’s Chapel Road, Smithfield.

The gospel music group Highway Revival will sing at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at Burnell Baptist Church, 3720 Old School Road, Four Oaks.

The Dixie Melody Boys will sing at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, 1100 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville.

Golf tournament

A golf tournament to benefit Baker’s Chapel Ministries will tee off at 1 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the Cardinal Country Club, 363 Parrish Memorial Road, Selma. Registration will begin at noon; a reception will follow the completion of play. For more information, call Elaine Mozingo at 919-989-7615.

The JOY Connection of First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield will meet at noon Thursday, Feb. 6, at the church, 215 S. Third St. Billy Duncan and Ann Huckenbeck will prepare lunch, and Rich Huckenbeck and Benny Pope will sing. For reservations, call the church office at 919-934-0988.

The Rev. William M. Partray of Zebulon, associate pastor of Wendell First Baptist Church, will speak at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Mitchener Memorial Baptist Church, 911 Blount St., Smithfield.

A Black History Month program is scheduled from 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Bentonville Disciples of Christ Church, 8566 Devil’s Race Track Road, Four Oaks. Comedian Ginger G. Vitus will perform, and E.B. Penny of Strickland Missionary Baptist Church and Takicey Dunston of Mt. Calvary United Holy Church will speak. Refreshments will follow the program. Bishop R.B. Mott, pastor of Small Chapel Church near Newton Grove, will speak at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Jackson Grove Church, 82 Sinclair Lake Road, Newton Grove.

Good Samaritan United Church of Christ has begun meeting at Kid’s Clubhouse, 72 Coats Commercial Drive in the Cleveland community. Joyful Noise, a service for families with young children, meets at 9 a.m. A fellowship hour follows. A traditional worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call the Rev.
