Army trains Jacobus G. Wood

Army Pvt. Jacobus G. Wood has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. He is the son of Tony and Patricia Wood of Clayton.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship, bayonet combat, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and the Army’s history, traditions, and core values.

Wood is a 2012 graduate of Clayton High School.

Army trains Daniel B. Wester

Army Pfc. Daniel B. Wester has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Belinda Hicks of Selma and Anthony Wester of Louisburg.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship, bayonet combat, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and the Army’s history, traditions, and core values.

Wester is a 2005 graduate of North Johnston High School, Kenly.

Army trains John C. Pope

Army National Guard Pvt. John C. Pope has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of John Pope of Smithfield.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship, bayonet combat, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and the Army’s history, traditions, and core values.

Pope is a 2012 graduate of Princeton High School.

Air Force trains Shawn Willoughby

Air Force Airman Shawn T. Willoughby has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Donald Willoughby of Selma and Diane Thompson of Rocky Mount.

The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, the Air Force’s core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate’s degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Willoughby is a 2011 graduate of Rocky Mount High School.

U.S. Navy trains James J. Boyd

Navy Fireman James J. Boyd has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of James H. and Tammy L. Boyd of Smithfield.

During the eight-week program, Boyd completed classroom study and practical instruction in naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

He is a 2010 graduate of West Johnston High School, Benson.

Air Force trains Colby Edwards

Air Force Airman Colby D. Edwards has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Phil Edwards of Clayton.

The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, the Air Force’s core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate’s degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Edwards is a 2011 graduate of West Johnston High School.

Navy trains Mercedes Vargas

Navy Seaman Recruit Mercedes M. Vargas has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Her father and stepmother are Miguel Vargas and Ernestina Reyes of Middlesex.

During the eight-week program, Vargas completed classroom study and practical instruction in naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

Vargas is a 2013 graduate of North Johnston High School.

Air Force Airman Patrick M. Barnes has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. He is the son of Sonia Marquez of Selma.

Barnes completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, the Air Force’s core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate’s degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Barnes is a 2012 graduate of North Johnston High School.

Air Force Airmen Rodney R. Smith has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Wanda Thorpe of Smithfield and Rodney Smith of Clayton.

The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, the Air Force’s core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Smith graduated from basic training with honors. He is a 2010 graduate of Smithfield-Selma High School.

Air Force trains Benton Kuszmaul

Air Force Airman Benton H. Kuszmaul has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is son of Craig and Becky Kuszmaul of Smithfield.

The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, the Air Force’s core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate’s degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Kuszmaul graduated from Smithfield-Selma High in 2003 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University in in 2008.

Airman 1st Class Carey W. Carroll of the Air National Guard has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Jamie Carroll of Clayton and Vicki Parks of Knightdale.

The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, the Air Force’s core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Edmund T. Krasinski has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Roberta and Edmund Krasinski of the Cleveland community.
