Girls Basketball: South Johnston 71, Northeast Guilford 54

South Johnston girls roll by Northeast Guilford

From Staff ReportsFebruary 25, 2014

South Johnston rolled by Northeast Guilford 71-54 in the opening round of the 3A girls basketball playoffs Monday night, three days after seeing its 19-game winning streak halted.

Anna Webster led the Trojans with 28 points and eight rebounds, while Emma Blackmon had 10 points and 16 rebounds, her second-straight 16-rebound game.

“We were so happy to see the girls playing like themselves again,” said South coach Ronda Langdon Johnson. “For the last three to four games...we have been getting by and playing complacent. We played with more fire and aggressiveness tonight than we have since before all of the snow.

“We moved the ball well on offense and kept our composure against a very aggressive and physical team.”

Alexis Massengill added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Trojans and Kayla Allen had nine assists coming off of the bench.

South hosts Fayetteville Terry Sanford in a second round game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
