Lila Whitley McLain (Jeanette) died suddenly after a long illness at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. At the time of her death, she was undergoing rehabilitation for a stroke. She was the wife of Arnold "Mac" McLain for 62 years and resided in West Smithfield since 1965. Jeanette is survived by her husband and daughters, Deborah McLain Futrell of Durham and Donna McLain Winchell of Wilson's Mills, and five grandchildren - Rodney Lee Futrell, Brian Keith Futrell, Jacob Aaron Winchell, Jaime Lee Winchell, and Dylan Thomas Winchell. Jeanette loved to play bridge and was an avid cook with a knack for cake baking, and she loved to travel. Her husband was in the Navy for 21 years. Their travels took them to many places including California and three years abroad in Japan. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Warner C. and Eva Ray Whitley, brother Frank, and sister Katherine Briscoe. Jeanette was an active member of Whitley Memorial Methodist Church in Smithfield. Jeanette will be buried at Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield on Tuesday.
