Comets top Corinth Holders in final inning

Clayton rallied to down Corinth Holders in softball 5-4 on Tuesday.

The Comets trailed 4-3 entering the bottom of the seventh but put the potential game-winning runs on base when Katelyn Davis and Lindsay Hodge singled. An untimely Pirate infield error in the frame later allowed both runners to score, giving Clayton the win.

The Comets led 1-0 early on Mindy North’s RBI bunt single, then Corinth Holders tied the score in the second on Summer Long’s RBI double.

Clayton went back on top in the third. Kortnie Blanchard singled in a run in the frame and another run scored on a Pirate error.

Corinth Holders went ahead in the sixth loading the bases on two hits by Kayla Narron and Aiyana Campbell and having Helsie Hocutt reach after being hit by a pitch. Holly Price singled in the first run, then Jessica Kronz earned a bases-loaded walk to tie the game. A Clayton error allowed Campbell to score for a 4-3 Pirate lead.

Hodge was 3-for-4 for the Comets, while Kayla Meares had two hits for Corinth Holders. Bailey Purdue got the win for Clayton.
