Smithfield Railhawks Elite Technique Training

Soccer players looking for additional elite-level off-season training can join the RailHawks Elite Technique Off-Season East program at Smithfield Community Park this summer. Training for U9-U18 players of all levels will be offered. Challenge and rec-level training will be for five sessions and Classic-level training will be offered for 10 sessions. Training will be offered from June 9 until July 16 and led by Sam Stockley, director of RailHawks Elite Technique, and other members of the RailHawks coaching staff. Three Little Ligs Triathlon in Smithfield

The Chick-fil-a Three Little Pigs Triathlon will be held in Smithfield on Saturday, June 14, with a 7:30 a.m. start. The race includes a 250-yard pool swim, a 14-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. The event starts and finishes at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. Register online at fsseries.com (event 169) until the event is full. Both individual and relay team entries are being accepted.

SRAC Summer Camp

Art, swimming, sports and outdoor fun will be available during the Smithfield SRAC Summer Camps for ages 5-12 during eight different weekly sessions. Camp will beld from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily, June 16-20, 23-27, July 7-11, 14-18, 21-25, July 28-Aug. 1, Aug. 4-8 and 11-15. The cost is $100-125. Children need to bring two snacks, a lunch, a swimming suit and a towel each day.

Smithfield Cheerleading Camps

Cheerleading camps for grades 1-6 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center are planned for June 23-25 and July 28-30 from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $50, payable to camp director Jessica Brank. For more info brankncs@gmail.com.

Group tennis lessons

The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Dept. will offer group tennis lessons on Monday and Thursday nights from May 5-29 at Smithfield Community Park. Jimmy Jernigan, a coach with more than 30 years of tennis experience, will lead the camp. The cost is $40 and payable to Jimmy Jernigan. Participants must provide their own racquets.

Smithfield Basketball Camp

The 2014 Smithfield Basketball Camp for ages 7-14 will be held from 9 a.m. until noon, June 16-19 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. Smithfield-Selma High boys coach James Robinson will lead the camp staff. The cost is $65 for pre-registration or $75 the first day of camp. Checks are payable to Coach Robinson.

Smithfield Softball Camp

The Smithfield Softball Camp for ages 7-16 will be held from 9 a.m. until noon, June 23-26 at Smithfield Community Park. Former SSS coach and player Britney Smith will lead the camp staff. The fee is $60 per camper and payable to Coach Smith.

Spartans Baseball Camp

The Spartans Baseball Camp for ages 7-14 will be held from 9 a.m. until noon daily July 7-10 at Spartan Field on the campus of Smithfield-Selma High School. SSS athletic director and former baseball player Chase Crocker will lead the camp staff. The fee is $65 and payable to the SSS Dugout Club.

Smithfield Volleyball Camp

The Smithfield Volleyball Camp will be held July 7-10 for girls ages 8-14. Camp is from 9 a.m. until noon daily and the fee is $60 per camper. Former Clemson University player and SSS coach Kim Smith will lead the camp staff. Checks should be made out to Coach Smith.

Smithfield Soccer Camp

The Smithfield Soccer Camp for ages 5-14 will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. daily from July 14-17 at the Smithfield Community Park soccer fields. The fee is $50 per camper. Steve Brush, a nationally certified coach, will lead the camp staff, which also includes Princeton High coach Morgan Brush, a former college player, and Amber Brush, a current player at Barton. Payment should be made out to Steve Brush.

Aquatics, fitness programs

The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of aquatics classes and fitness programs. Visit SRAConline.com or call 934-1408 for more information. Some of the fitness offerings include Cycling, Zumba, Hip Hop Hustle, Piyo, Turbo Kick, Total Body, Tai Chi, Inferno Cycle, P90X and Cycle Fusion. Young champions self-defense

Taught by a certified black belt instructor from Young Champions of America this course for ages 4-18 emphasizes child safety awareness. The focus will be on basic self-defense and karate techniques. Class meets on Thursday nights until June 12. The registration fee is $10 and there is a $7 weekly class fee. Registration is onsite starting at 5:45 p.m. for new students.

Challenger Sports Soccer Camp

The Selma Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Challenger Sports to provide a soccer camp for ages 6 -16 from June 23-27. Camp will take place from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Selma Middle School and the cost is $115 (includes t-shirt and soccer ball). Register online at ww.challengersports.com by May 2 and receive a free soccer jersey.

2014 Clayton Road Race

The 2014 Clayton Road Race will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. The 3.1-mile race runs through the streets of Clayton. The registration fee is $20 before May 4 or $25 thereafter. Registrations will be taken on race day until 8:30 a.m. There will be a tenth-of-a-mile tot trot for ages 6 and under held as well. Registration for that event is $5 for person. Registration forms are available at the Clayton Parks and Recreation Dept. office, the Hocutt-Ellington Library or online.
