JOHNSTON COUNTY SCHOOLS

A Johnston County education society is making more than 200 first-year teachers feel welcome here.

With volunteer and business support, the Alpha Beta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma has served refreshments at the Beginning Teacher Institute, sent out notes of encouragement and, most recently, distributed goodie bags to all first-years teachers.

The goodie bags held a variety snack cakes and crackers, bottled water, chocolate, mints, gum and other candies. Alpha Beta members donated the treats except for the bottled water, which came from Carroll Pharmacy in Smithfield.

Alpha Beta members said the goodie bags help bridge the gap between Christmas and spring break. And they’re a great way to help first-year teachers know they are appreciated.

Delta Kappa Gamma is a society of women educators whose mission is to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. For more information visit deltakappagamma.org/NC-alphabeta.
