Relay for Life is this weekend

This year’s Relay for Life in Johnston County will take place June 6-7 at Smithfield-Selma High School on Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield.

The opening ceremony at 6:30 a.m. will celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, share recent accomplishments and remind everyone that fighting cancer is a year-round battle.

The survivor walk will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the caregivers walk at 7:30.

The luminaria ceremony at 9 p.m. will remember people lost to cancer, support people who have cancer and honor people who have fought cancer in the past.

A talent show by cancer survivors will begin at 9:30 p.m. At midnight, the first “5K Glow Fun Run” will begin. To register for the run, go to

A breakfast cook-out is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. The kids’ walk will begin at 10 a.m.
