Here’s the schedule for Family Fun Day on Saturday, July 5, in the Archer Lodge community.

7 a.m. – 5k race, walk. Register before race.

2 p.m. – skydiver, parade.

2:30 p.m. – bingo, inflatables and pedal cars for kids, and concessions, including hot dogs, french fries, ice cream, slushies and barbecue plates and sandwiches from the pig-cooking contest.

3:30 p.m. – cakewalk.

5 p.m. – splashdown with the Archer Lodge Fire Department.

7:30 p.m. – patriotic ceremony.

8 p.m. – Army Band.

9:15 p.m. – fireworks.


Benson’s Independence Day celebration will get under way at 3 p.m. Friday, July 4, in the Singing Grove 406 E. Main St. The afternoon will offer live music, dancing and activities for children. Fireworks will begin at 9.


The Town of Clayton will host a July 4 celebration and fireworks display Friday at Municipal Park on West Stallings Street. Events include:

4 p.m. – family field events, including sack races, relay races, a 50-yard dash, water-balloon tosses and egg-and-spoon walk.

4:30 p.m. – basketball skills competition.

5 p.m. – cornhole tournament.

6 p.m. – bingo and beach music by Jim Quick and Coastline.

9:30 p.m. – fireworks display.


A pancake and sausage breakfast is scheduled from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at Oakland Presbyterian Church, 8927 Cleveland Road. The all-you-can-eat meal is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. The community’s July 4 parade will follow.

Also on the schedule: games, bouncy fun, pony rides, food and entertainment open after the parade; community ball game, 1 p.m.; street dance, 7-9:15 p.m.; and fireworks, 9:15 p.m.


The town’s Independence Day celebration will get underway at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Lake Benson Park, 921 Buffaloe Road. The evening will feature live entertainment, concessions, a kids’ area, a concert by the N.C. Symphony and fireworks. Because parking at Lake Benson Park is limited, the town will provide a shuttle service from Bryan Farms at 1832 New Bethel Church Road. A fireworks show is scheduled from 8 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 4, at Kenly 95 Petro on Johnston Parkway in Kenly.


Selma will hold its 11th All-American Festival from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 4, in the heart of downtown. The festival will feature live entertainment, a children’s area, vendors and fireworks at 9:15 p.m.


Smithfield will celebrate Independence Day Wednesday, July 2, on South Third Street near Johnston Street. The Coco Loco Party Band will play at 6:30 p.m., and fireworks will go off at 9:30. In between, enjoy games and other activities.
