Parents: Greg and Amy Stephenson

High School: Neuse Charter

Also Considered: Brevard, Montreat

Why Mars Hill? “I liked the approach they have and how well the coach and the team work together.”

Major: Biology

Notable: Sara ran at North Johnston High School before coming to Neuse Charter for her senior season. … She made the most of that opportunity, qualifying for the state outdoor championships this spring. There she ran a career best time in the 1,600 meters (5:51). “It was something that made me very happy,” Sara said of that finish. “Because I have always worked so hard at the other regionals and missed qualifying (for states) by one (position).” … Sara started running in middle school when she realized she liked the constant running part of soccer more than the part of soccer involving the ball. That helped her fit right in with a family that features several runners. That group includes her father, Greg, who served as her high school coach this season. “He’s been my coach for a very long time,” Sara said. “So it wasn’t much different from what I was used to before.”… She plans to go into veterinary medicine.
