Selma — Walgreens, the nation’s largest drugstore chain, is coming to town.
Oswald Development of Ohio has give the town plans for a 14,550-square-foot building at the corner of U.S. 70 and Ricks Road, said C.L. Gobble, Selma’s interim manager. Gobble said he had already approved the site plan and had issued a permit two weeks ago.
Walgreens will replace the Golden China Buffet on Ricks Road, Gobble said. The restaurant’s owners could not be reached for comment. Gobble said Oswald Development planned to tear down the restaurant building and start anew.
“They’ll be making some pretty major improvements” to the site, Gobble said. Among them, he said, would be the planting of trees and shrubbery. A new driveway, curbing and signage are also part of the plan.
Gobble said the state Department of Transportation would not allow Oswald to create an entrance along Ricks Road. Instead, traffic must enter off of Crocker Road behind the store.
Oswald Co., an affiliate of Oswald Development, will build the drugstore. Oswald Co. has built 28 Walgreens stores in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Also, the firm has built Kroger and Staples stores in Ohio and Kentucky.
Tiffany Bruce, a spokeswoman for Walgreens, did not return phone calls seeking comment on the company’s plans.
