‘The God Questions’

A series titled “The God Questions” continues this Sunday, Oct. 12, at Discovery Church, which meets at Clayton Fitness Center, 1370 Cameron Way, Clayton. The program, at 10 a.m., will explore the question, “Is the Bible True?” Other questions in the series are “Do All Roads Lead to God?” on Oct. 19 and “Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?” on Oct. 26.

Live Oak homecoming

Homecoming at Calvary

Calvary United Methodist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 12. Lunch will be at 1 p.m. Afterward, the Rev. Jerry Smith will speak, and the youth praise team from Horne United Methodist Church will perform. Calvary Church is on Medlin Road near Clayton.

Selma Baptist Church

Selma Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming Sunday, Oct. 12. Dr. Frank Zedick will speak. He was the church’s pastor in the 1950s. The Social Security Boys, a gospel trio, will perform. The program will start at 10:15 a.m. The church is at 1500 N. Webb St. in Selma.

Barbecue, auction

Plates of barbecue will be on sale from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Selma Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church at the corner of West Elizabeth and Graves streets in Selma. The cost is $6 per plate. An auction will begin at 6 p.m.

Pleasant Plain

Pleasant Plain Free Will Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 12. The Rev. Billy Nowell, pastor, will speak during the 11 a.m. worship hour. Lunch will follow the service. The church is on Old Beulah Road near Selma.

St. John AME

A Joy Night service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at St. John AME Church, 400 W. Watson St., Selma. The Rev. Tony Mills will speak. A plate sale will get under way at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the BP station on South Pollock Street. A Men’s Day service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at the church. The Rev. Lacy Simpson will speak, and a male choir will perform.

Giveaway at Union Hill

A community giveaway is scheduled from 8 a.m. till 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Union Hill AME Church on Harrison Road in Wilson’s Mills. All items will be free.

Old-Fashioned Sunday

Oct. 12 will be Old-Fashioned Sunday at Smithfield Advent Christian Church at the corner of N.C. 210 and Galilee Road west of Smithfield. The worship hour will begin at 11 a.m. Those attending are invited to wear old-fashioned clothes.

Remnant Worship

A homecoming service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Remnant Worship Center, 2455 N.C. 96 North, Selma. Harold and Toni Massey will sing.

Word of Faith

Pastor Deron McLamb of Bentonville Disciples of Christ Church will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Word of Faith Deliverance Church, 4658 Devil’s Racetrack Road, Four Oaks. The choir from Bentonville Church will sing.

Sharon homecoming

Sharon Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 12. Sunday School will begin at 9:45 a.m. Dr. Jack Causey will speak during the 11 a.m. worship hour. Lunch will follow the service. The church will provide a nursery for small children. A covered-dish lunch will follow the service. The church is at 116 Britt St. in Smithfield.

Asbury United Methodist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 12. Lunch will follow the 11 a.m. worship hour. The church is on South Bright Leaf Boulevard in Smithfield.

Pastor’s anniversary

The pastor of Small Chapel Church near Newton Grove is celebrating his pastor. A service in his honor is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12. Pastor Joseph Moore of Evergreen Church in Salemburg will speak.

Evangelist to speak

Evangelist Hattie Lofton of Smithfield will speak at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8-10 at Second Chance Christian Ministry on Delco Street in Fayetteville. Lofton will speak at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Harvest Word Ministry on U.S. 301 in Micro.

Galilee homecoming

Galilee Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday. Lunch in the fellowship hall will follow the 11 a.m. worship service. The Rev. James Gathers, pastor of Total Praise Ministries, will speak at 3 p.m., and a choir from his church will sing. Galilee Church is at 2017 Galilee Road near Smithfield.

Tent revival Oct. 10-12

A tent revival is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 10-11 and 11 a.m. Oct. 12 at Temple Baptist Church, 1250 S. Pollock St., Selma. The revival will serve free food and drinks. For children ages 3-11, the revival will feature child evangelist Jane Poole and a puppet ministry.

New Zealand dinner

Plates of barbecued chicken will be on sale from 11 a.m. till 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at New Zealand Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 5312 Meadowbrook Road in the Meadow community. The cost is $7 per plate, with takeout available.

Mt. Sinai Church

Appreciation services for Pastor George Streeter are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Mt. Sinai United Holy Church in Pine Level. For directions, call 965-8424.
