Quilt show Oct. 9-11

A quilt show will be held Oct. 9-11 at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210, Smithfield. Hours are 3 till 7 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. till 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. Saturday. Some of the quilts chosen for the show are more than 100 years old. Admission is free. For more information, call Jayne Cubilla at 989-5380.

Maze Dayz Oct. 18

Maze Dayz is scheduled from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Lazy O Farm, 3583 Packing Plant Road, Smithfield. The event will feature hayrides, visits to a pumpkin patch, barnyard animals and a picnic area. For more information, call Tami Thompson at 934-1132.

SRO for Capitol Steps

The Clayton Center has added standing-room-only tickets for the Oct. 18 performance by the Capitol Steps, the political-satire group. The SRO tickets are $15. They are available online at theclaytoncenter.com, by phone at 553-1737 or at The Clayton Center box office, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. The box office is open from 10 a.m. till noon and from 1 till 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

‘Seasons’ in Benson

The Benson Little Theatre will present “Seasons,” an evening of songs and dialogue, Oct. 17-19 in the W.J. Barefoot Auditorium, 303 E. Church St., Benson. Show times are 8 p.m. Oct. 17 and 18 and 3 p.m. Oct. 19. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children. Dancing in Smithfield

“Dancing with the Stars,” a benefit for the Johnston County Community Foundation, will be held Friday, Oct. 17, at the Country Club of Johnston County, 694 Country Club Road, Smithfield. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served from 6:30 till 7:30 p.m. Dancing will begin at 7:30. A Taste of Carolina

Tickets are on sale for this year’s A Taste of Carolina. The event, a fund-raiser for the Woman’s Club of Clayton, is scheduled from 7 till 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. It will feature food from area restaurants, a silent auction, a 50-50 raffle, a deejay playing dance music and a cash bar. For tickets, call Jessica Creech at 553-8216.

Benefit concert

A gospel sing to benefit the Smithfield Rescue Mission is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at First Assembly of God, 923 Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. The following will perform: Harvest Time, Living Eater, the Ken Ezzell Group, Throne of Grace, Patricia Avery, Mary Braswell, Tim Crocker and Robin Davis.

Country music in Selma

The next Country Tonight music show is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the Ice House Theater, 112 N. Webb St., Selma. Auditions at JCC

The Country Music Showcase at Johnston Community College will hold auditions on Saturday, Oct. 11. The auditions are for vocal talent, dancers and instrumentalists. ‘Illusions of the King’

Keith Henderson will present his “Illusions of the King,” an Elvis Presley tribute, Saturday, Oct. 18, at Wilson’s Mills Elementary School, 4654 Wilson’s Mills Road, Wilson’s Mills. The doors will open at 6 p.m. Dinner will be at 6:30. The show will start at 7:30. The cost is $30 per person and includes dinner. For tickets, call 965-6343. Proceeds will benefit the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

Celebrating trails

A statewide celebration of Mountains-to-Sea Trail Month in North Carolina will include two events in Johnston County. Birdwatching is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25, at Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center. Bicycle tours of Howell Woods will also take place on Oct. 25. A salute to The Beatles

Johnston Community College will present 1964 the Tribute, a Beatles tribute band, at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium on the Smithfield campus, 245 College Road. Rolling Stone magazine called 1964 “the best Beatles tribute ever.” Tickets are $25 in advance and $27.50 at the door. For tickets, call the auditorium box office at 209-2099.

Variety show in Selma
